Bands in skeletal muscle

  • A¬†sarcomere¬†is the basic unit of striated muscle tissue
  • Sarcomere is present in between two Z lines
  • Thin filaments are attached to Z line
  • Thin filament = Mainly Actin + (Tropomyosin + Troponin)

  • H zone contains only myosin
  • I band/ Isotropic to light/ Bright band = Contains only actin
  • A band/ Anisotropic to light/ Dark band= Myosin + Overlapped actin

During muscle contraction:

  • A band remains unchanged
  • I band decreases in length
  • H band decreases in length.
