Introduction:

  • Benign tumor
  • Cell of origin: Meningothelial cell of the arachnoid matter (also known as Arachnoid cap cell)
  • MC location: Falx cerebri
  • Associated with NF2.

Association with pregnancy:

  • Meningioma is a Progesterone receptor positive (PR +ve) tumor
  • So, it increases in size during pregnancy
  • So, it is more common in multipara women.

Radiology:

  • IOC: Gd enhanced MRI
  • MRI finding:
    • Extra-axial  tumor
    • Lies outside the Blood Brain Barrier (BBB)
    • Intensely enhances after administration of contrast agent
    • Dural tail sign
  • Angiography:
    • The ‘Mother in law‘ sign is used to describe a lesion that enhances early during the arterial phase and remains opacified well after the venous phase. The joke is that a mother in law comes early and stays late.

Histopathology:

  • Psammoma body with whorled pattern.
