Methods of placental separation


Schultze method:

  • MC method
  • Begins from central part
  • Bleeding is seen only after complete separation of placenta
  • Retroplacental clot is present
  • Total blood loss is relatively lower
  • O/E:¬†Fetal side of placenta is shiny (Schultze: Shiny).

Duncan’s method:

  • Begins from peripheral part
  • External bleeding begins with onset of separation of placenta
  • Total blood loss is relatively higher
  • O/E:¬†Maternal side of placenta is dirty (Duncan: Dirty).
