Important types of joints:

  1. Hinge (movable joint)
  2. Ball and socket (movable joint)
  3. Pivot (movable joint)
  4. Saddle (movable joint)
  5. Planar (movable joint)
  6. Symphses (slightly movable joint)
  7. Synchondroses (immovable joint).

Note: The sternocostal joints are synovial plane joints of the costal cartilages of the true ribs with the sternum, with the exception of the first, which is a synchondrosis since the cartilage is directly united with the sternum.
